Hope Christian Child and Family Services

Hope Christian Child and Family Services exists to serve children, youth and families in need. We currently provide counseling in the Boise, ID area in person, or by telehealth to anyone who lives in Idaho. We integrate Christian Counseling when requested, meet each client where they are in life, and respect each client’s individuality and autonomy in choosing their own goals in counseling, and in life. We serve youth ages 7 on up through high school, and adults. We accept clients with issues we are trained to treat, no matter whether they are male or female, or what their beliefs are.

About Us

Our Beliefs

As a Christian agency, we believe not only in Christian counseling, but that God works through use of some other evidence based techniques to improve brain health, relationships, and life. We respect that each person is uniquely created and has unique gifts, talents, abilities, and experiences, and we desire to help each person build on their strengths.

Services We Provide

Counseling

Currently we provide individual and group counseling for children and teens. We also provide family counseling (not couples counseling), as well as some individual counseling for adults. Services are available in person or by telehealth, though for young children especially, in person is recommended. We charge a sliding scale, income based fee, and take Medicaid and most major insurances.

Case Management

We provide referrals to resources in the community to meet the needs of our clients and families.

Medication / Supplement Management

We believe in giving clients a choice between a medication route and an evidence based nutritional supplement route for treating brain health, so we provide referrals to psychiatrists, functional medicine providers, and naturopathic providers who treat brain health issues using evidence-based treatments. To tailor treatment to each youth’s brain issues, we provide parents resources on what they can do to optimize their child’s brain, which is a collaborative process involving the clinician, the client, the parent or guardian, and other providers. We use a biological, psychological, social and spiritual approach to address brain health (aka mental health and behavior) issues.

Kathleen Weathers is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor and Amen clinic certified Brain Health Professional. Prior to becoming a counselor, Kathleen worked in crisis centers with adults, and in children’s residential care, helping children and their families that experienced trauma. Kathleen is trained in EMDR for children, teens and adults, specializes in teens and trauma, and has experience working with teens who identify as LGBTQ+. Kathleen is experienced in Christian Counseling, DBT, CBT, Family Systems, EMDR, Existential, Strengths-based, Sand tray, and Solution focused approaches. She has worked with children, teens, and adults with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Depression, Bipolar, Oppositional Defiant Disorder, Conduct Disorder, Anxiety, and AD/HD. She is committed to developing outpatient counseling services that tailor treatment to each client’s unique brain type, in order to lessen the risk of youth ever having to be placed in residential care. Though there is a need for brain-based, Christian youth residential care, and Kathleen may one day develop a residential program, she believes that looking at brain function and treating brain health issues at their root cause goes a long way toward preventing the need for residential care. Kathleen believes in living the message when it comes to optimizing brain health through a biological, psychological, social and spiritual approach, and has an incredible brain health testimony of her own.

“A hundred years from now it will not matter what my bank account was, the sort of house I lived in, or the kind of car I drove… but the world may be different because I was important in the life of a child.” Forest E. Witcraft
